New Pro Bono OR Project: Blue Cross

Blue Cross Project

Develop research to support the implementation of Blue Cross’s new Diversity, Inclusion and Equality policy

Project:

Blue cross, an animal charity, is seeking to develop research to support implementation of their Diversity, Inclusion and Equality policy.

Project description:

Blue Cross is a charity that has been helping sick, injured, abandoned and homeless pets since 1897. They help thousands of pets in need every month, providing veterinary care, expert behaviour help and find them loving happy homes, as well as advice and education for current or future pet owners and pet bereavement support. The charity develops lifelong relationships with pets and owners, providing quality care that is accessible and non-judgmental.

Blue cross is seeking to develop research to support the implementation their new Diversity, Inclusion and Equality policy

There are three strands to the research, each of which can be undertaken by a different individual volunteer or a pair of volunteers working together:

1. A review of the charity’s current practices, procedures and marketing on recruitment with consideration to diversity, inclusion and equality.  This may involve desk research, focus groups, data analysis (if data is available), or other suitable research methods.

2. A review to understand how diverse the charity’s paid and volunteer teams currently are, by developing and administering an equal opportunity monitoring form/survey for the charity’s staff and volunteers and comparing to diversity within the charity’s local communities.

3. Development of an Inclusion Action Plan by analysing the findings of the reviews in parts 1 and 2, benchmarking against the sector, and engaging with groups that lead on protected characteristics e.g. disability or gender rights groups.

Time commitment
Review of current practices and marketing materials used in recruitment: 3-4 days
Review of staff and volunteer diversity through a survey and local community analysis: 2 days
Developing Inclusion Action Plan: 7-8 days

Location1-2 visits to the Burford office may be required, but these are limited (to potentially a few hours).  There will be a monthly senior managers’ meeting to attend over Skype. The organisation is willing to work flexibly (e.g. via teleconference or video conference).  All other work can be done remotely.

If you feel you are able to offer your assistance please complete the application form and return along with your CV to amy.hughes@theorsociety.com by 8th August.

The OR Society fully supports equal opportunities. As such, we welcome applications from the partially sighted or blind, or those with disabilities.
